Splendid Tree Frog

Litoria splendida

A very large green tree frog with large glands behind the eyes that extend along the back. The fingers are fringed, the toes fully webbed and the legs are long. Both fingers and toes have large expanded discs. The colour is a rich green with white or yellow spots, often with black in the centre and edged with black. The undersides are often a faint yellow including yellowy-orange thighs. Up to 11 cm.

Breeding

Breeds in rockpools and rockholes.

Call

A long loud buzz, repeated regularly.

Eggs

One female was recorded as laying small 6400 eggs that sunk to the bottom singly.

Tadpoles

Unknown.

Other Notes

This large species prefers rocks, whereas the more common Green Tree Frog prefers trees and woodlands.
