Kimberley Froglet

Crinia fimbriata

A small-bodied species (to 2 cm) with relatively long legs. Males have wide flanges on the fingers; belly smooth. Background colour is a bluish or reddish grey-brown with a network of fine bluish-white tubercles scattered on the back.

Breeding

Males have been found in shallow rock pools on sandstone outcrops in summer.

Tadpoles

The tadpoles are small (to 20 mm) with a wide body and truncate snout. The jaws are highly developed and may enable tadpoles to scrape algae from the bottom of rock pools where they have been found.

Other Notes

This is Australia's newest frog species. It only occurs in the northwest Kimberley and little is known about its biology.
