Publications of the WA Museum

The WA Museum’s Department of Terrestrial Vertebrates actively engages in research on frogs throughout the state. Although most of the research is published in scientific reports, this work is summarised in books, posters and CDs.

Frogs of Western Australia (4th edition) by Mike Tyler & Paul Doughty
The field guide of WA frogs was written by Australia's frog expert, Professor Mike Tyler, with the WA Museum's Paul Doughty. This book provides detailed species descriptions, high quality photographs and distribution maps. It is an essential guide for frog enthusiasts heading out to the bush and is the essential reference for WA frogs.

Building Frog-friendly Gardens by Ken Aplin, Anthea Paino and Lyndal Sleep
Available from the WA Museum Bookshop, the booklet has been specifically written for frogs of the Perth region, but the principles apply more broadly to WA and the rest of Australia. The book contains all you need to know (and then some) on how to get started on building a frog pond and planting your garden so that it's frog-friendly. Step-by-step instructions are provided for installing a pond and planting native vegetation that will be good for frogs and other native wildlife.
