Southern Sandhill Frog

Arenophryne xiphorhyncha

A small brown burrowing frog, with a small head and large front hands. The colour is light tan to dark brown.

Unknown, but presumably similar to the Northern Sandhill Frog which has direct-developing eggs.

Unknown, but likely to be similar to the direct-developing eggs of the Northern Sandhill Frog which is more well-known.

Tadpoles

None, if similar to the northern species.

Other Notes

This is Australia's newsest species of frog, discovered when genetic tests by Danielle Edwards found ages of divergence of 5-7 million years between the northern and southern populations of sandhill frogs.
